Behind the scenes at Mess Around Worcestershire

Today we hear from Jade at Mess Around Worcestershire who joined the Mess Around family almost 4 years ago. We have a fantastic family of franchisees from a variety of backgrounds who all bring their unique experience to their messy play businesses.

Jade shares a ‘behind the scenes’ perspective of her business below:

Name Jade Hudspith

The area you mess in? Worcestershire

How long have you been a Mess Around owner? It will be 4 years this November 2019!

Do you have any messy children? Yes, I have Archie who is 6 and Tilly who is 4. Tilly has never known anything but mess and gets me into a lot of trouble with her teachers when she paints herself.

What did you do before you had a career in spaghetti? I was an accountant at a cold store company.

When you’re not messing around, what do you enjoy doing? Spending time with my family. We are always busy doing something, walking our dogs, swimming, endless birthday parties etc

Why did you join Mess Around? I needed to go back to work after having Tilly but knew I didn’t want to leave the children and go back into the office so I started looking for something that I could do around them. Then by chance Mess Around was in my area so I went to have a look and knew it was for me. Although Tilly was only 5 months old, we made it work and have never looked back.

What’s been your messy highlight so far? It has to be the experiences that we get going as a family to all these amazing festivals! This year’s Car Fest South was the best and there aren’t many jobs that you get those opportunities. We are very lucky!

What’s your favourite messy material? Probably the coloured rice. Children will literally sit playing with it for hours on end and from a completely selfish point of view it is the easiest to clean up.

What messy plans do you have for the future? I have just this year recruited my first Messy Leader, Hayley, so we plan to grow the business more next year. Now that both of my children are at school this is now my time to get us out to as many areas across Worcestershire as possible. I will also be bringing Slime Lab to new areas and festivals next year.

What’s the best thing about being a Mess Around franchisee? Flexibility! I get to work and run my business from anywhere and still do the school run every day and meet friends for the odd coffee. When both the children were at home we still did play dates and soft play and I could still work around their fun time.

What’s your favourite event? I think it’s a close call between Halloween and Christmas. Both events are extremely messy and I love to see little witches and skeletons, but Christmas is just my favourite time of the year.

What tips would you pass onto anyone who is looking to join our Mess Around family? Get organised and get fit! I think the key to running your business successfully is being organised to the extreme. As long as you plan then everything will fall into place. You certainly don’t need a gym membership when you become a leader. Some days you’ll cover 10 miles in steps so be prepared and have sugar to hand.
