Five simple Halloween messy play activities to try at home

October sees the beginning of SPOOKTACULAR Halloween messy play month – where your witches, devils, cats and bats get to explore our Halloween themed messy fun.

We love hearing their cackles of delight as they ghoulishly messy. Now, if you want to get inspired and try some messy play at home then here are five simple Halloween themed messy activities for you to mix, pour, dig and explore with your little monsters.

Spiders Web Foam

Mouldable soap and shaving foam are so diverse for messy play. You can create lots of fantastic shapes with a soft, foamy texture for little fingers to explore. We created a spooky spiders web, perfect for Halloween and added some plastic spiders for the full effect.

Jelly Brains

Jelly is the perfect gloopy, sticky texture to create some really gooey jelly brains. We added some insects to create a yucky effect. Jelly is a great sensory messy tray to explore for all ages, particularly as its taste safe too.

Flour Moon

Grab your werewolves and get howling- with the flour moon sensory tray. You can create this using normal flour, cornflour or even gluten free flour. We printed and cut out some howling wolves to create a fab Halloween effect.

Witches Brew

Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble with our ooey, gooey witches brew. We make this by cooking cornflour, water and food colouring and allowing to set. Add a little water when your ready to use it. The great thing about the texture is it doesn’t matter if it’s a little lumpy as it adds to the yucky effect. Use scoops, ladles, mashers and cups to explore the texture with your Halloween fans.

Rats Baked Beans

This simple, taste safe activity is a fun way to explore baked beans. We added some spooky rats to mush into the beany, tomato goo. We add lots of mashers, scoops and bowls for little hands to play with- but mostly they love using their fingers to taste!
