Mess Around Northamptonshire goes WILD at Hamerton Zoo Park
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Hamerton Zoo Park a few weeks ago who kindly offered to come along to our Mega Mess, Weekend messy play sessions across Northamptonshire, with their Hamerton Zoo tiger mascot. (You can see him at our upcoming Rushden and Kettering sessions).
Hamerton Zoo Park was the perfect match with our Rumble In The Jungle theme throughout February and March. So to get in the ‘jungle’ mood we decided to take a visit to see what the zoo was all about.
With two toddlers in tow, we took a 30 minute drive through beautiful countryside, excitedly singing ‘we’re going to the zoo, zoo, zoo’ and distracting the kids with tales of the animals we were going to see.
Hamerton Zoo Park is set in 25 acres of beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside and we were extremely lucky to have arrived on the hottest day of the year, in February!
As anyone knows, visiting any attraction with toddlers can be challenging but they had a fantastic time wondering around. It’s a really open site so even if they run ahead you can see what they are up to. But they got so excited checking out each and every animal which was great as the toddler attention span can be challenging! I also loved that they could easily see each of the displays, without us having to lift them up.
With some walk-through attractions as well, they really got to get ‘hands on’ throughout the visit.
We particularly loved that specialise in rare, endangered and unusual animals, so it really is a unique place to visit. Our favourites were the walkthrough Outback Aviary, the Malayan Tigers, meerkats and all the different species of monkey.
There were tonnes of picnic benches and open grass to bring your own picnic blankets too- and we had several snack breaks throughout the park! The kids playground was a good spot to stop and enjoy an ice lolly and a sit down for mummy! On certain days they have a railroad train which looks well worth a ride too. There is also a cafe, gift shop (with affordable treats) and really good facilities for nappy changes!
I think Hamerton Zoo Park is the perfect size for a toddler and even us adults were entertained.
