Mess Around Party- Egg Box Cars and Buses

Hello All!

As you will have seen we’ve been busy with our crafts here at Mess Around North Surrey HQ throughout lockdown and this week has been no exception! My two boys are both obsessed with cars and most other vehicles with their four wheeled toys ending up in all of our activities in one way or another.

So this week we had fun creating a couple of easy crafts that you can also make at home with your little ones.

Egg Box Cars

Firstly you will need the following

  • Egg Boxes
  • Scissors
  • Paint and paint brushes
  • Paper
  • PVA glue
  • Black felt tip pen

Firstly I cut one egg box to make 6 separate ‘cars’ and then the boys and I painted them and allowed them to dry.

Once dry (we finished them off the following day) it was time to add the wheels. For the wheels we used more egg boxes, cutting out the circle as seen here

Some egg boxes may not have these so you could use some cardboard or some small buttons.

We then coloured in the circles using a black felt tip pen and then using some PVA glue we glued them onto each of the cars.

Finally we added some windows by gluing some small pieces of white paper onto each car to complete them.

Egg Box Double Decker Bus

Next and taking some more inspiration from the wonderful Pinterest we set about making an iconic London double decker bus.

For this we used

  • 2 egg boxes
  • Red paint
  • PVA Glue
  • White Paper
  • Felt tip pens
  • cocktail stick

We started by painting each of the boxes with red paint and allowed to dry.

Next I cut a whole in one of the boxes to make a door and added a coloured cocktail stick (coloured with a felt tip). We then cut out some white paper to make the windows for the bus and marked them out with a black felt tip pen. Once this was all completed we used the PVA glue to glue the two boxes together.

Once the bus was completed we felt it was missing something so out of some of the egg box, another cocktail stick and some paper my son made a bus stop.

Finally with an old cereal box we made a bus shelter, complete with bench.

Once all complete both boys were eager to be allowed to play with the cars and bus so using some road laminates from our messy play events and some of their own toys we did a quick set up and they set about playing.

I hope this has given you some inspiration for using up some of those egg boxes and recycling and please do share with us your creations.

Susie x
