Wow Time Flies when you are getting MESSY!
My Messy Journey So Far!
So today I’ve officially been in business ONE Year with Mess Around South Yorkshire….as it was exactly a year ago today that I had my launch event at Sheffield Theatre Deli! Looking back I was a total mixed bag of nervous energy and excitement – but I had a fabulous helping hand from Krissy at Mess Around Ltd, who came to support me at my launch and teach me all the messy tricks of the trade. It went really well, everyone had a blast and I haven’t looked back since. Being a year in already I thought it was about time I had a go at blogging, so here I am sharing a bit about my messy journey with you:
I became a mum at almost 40, after always saying ‘I’m never having children’…and what can I say? It’s certainly changed me beyond words. I was always the one focussed on my career and then loved spending my spare time partying and travelling, so could never contemplate settling down. But meeting my husband Antonio and having Elliott meant I wanted different things and to treasure every moment we have together as a little family. I’m not saying it’s been an easy transition to ‘mummyhood’ or that I never miss some bits of my ‘old life’, but I’m happier and more content than I could have ever imagined and I love being a Mum.
When I had to return to work full time after my MAT leave, although nice to have some adult time, I just didn’t enjoy my job as much as I had before. I felt sad and guilty to be leaving Elliott so much in the care of other people and ultimately felt like I was missing out on him growing up. I especially missed many of the baby groups we used to do together, which were mostly during the week – however we found Mess Around and joined some weekend events as a family, which we absolutely loved. Here are some snaps of a teeny tiny Elliott enjoying the Mess.
So when I found out that the franchise was up for sale, I knew instantly this was for me! As it would be a way to spend more time at home, be around for pre-school pick up’s / drop offs, get involved in the business as a whole family, have fun and earn some money too! So I went for it and here I am a year later, the proud owner of a growing messy play business. I cannot tell you how much I love it and how proud I am of what I have achieved so far!!
Here’s a few of the highlights:
This year we’ve introduced lots of new venues and areas. Would you believe We’ve delivered around 80 Mess Around Events, plus private sessions and birthday parties?
And as a result of the amazing feedback, regular sell outs and the demand for making a mess across South Yorkshire…in September I was able to reduce my hours to part time at my Non-messy job and have more time to focus on my family and my messy business.
We’ve had loads of fun meeting you all at big events like Peace in the Park, TotFEST, Whirlow Farm Fayre and Little Monsters Halloween Party on the Moor Sheffield.
Plus had the pleasure to support a number of amazing charity events like ‘Sheffield Children’s Hospital Neuroscience Family Fun Day at Graves Park, Children’s Heart Surgery Fund Event Kiverton Park, Hallam Cash for Kids Christmas Auction.
I’ve loved developing all our Social Media, telling you all about our upcoming events and putting out some fab competitions in collaboration with loads of other local businesses. The Mess Around South Yorkshire Facebook Page is now almost at 4000 likes/followers – which is just awesome!!
In my first few months of business Mess Around South Yorkshire Won Runner Up in the HOOP awards for best creative activity for children. And then I won Mess Around’s Outstanding Franchise 2019 award. So now I’ve had a little taste of success I’ve got my sights set on more awards in 2020!!!
So what’s next?
Well I’ve got loads planned…more events, new themes, loads of even more creative messy trays, regular blogs, sharing messy activities to try at home, bigger competitions and lots more MESS!! Woo Hoo!
I’ll end my first ever blog, by firstly saying thanks for reading to the end!! And to say I truly LOVE what I do at Mess Around South Yorkshire – getting creative, jumping around like a loon with my snow machine, meeting you all, seeing everyone having fun getting messy and enjoying time together is so rewarding. It makes all the hard work worthwhile!!
Perhaps that should be my next blog…a bit of ‘the hard-work behind the scenes’, as so many people ask about the prep and how long the big clean up takes!! Sneak preview snaps below ⇓
If you’ve not checked out our upcoming event dates, why not pop over to the upcoming events section on our website and take a look?
And I look forward to seeing you all very soon for loads more messy fun!
