A Messy March in the Jungle!

It’s been so busy here at Mess Around West Suffolk – we have had a fantastic February with our new theme The Greatest Mess and I can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Rumble in the Jungle is fully underway, and it is proving messy! I am loving this theme too! We still have a few places left at the following events but not many so you will need to book quickly!

Jungle Play at home.

I thought it would be great to share with you some fantastic jungle themed messy play ideas that you could do at home with your little messy explorers – ones that are good fun but not too messy for home!

The first one is great for colour mixing and for containing the mess!

Grab a Ziplock bag, draw a chameleon on the front of it – add some blobs of paint and seal. Your little one can have some great fun squidging and pushing and splodging the colours, watching them change colour and shapes and patterns. The beauty is it’s all contained within the bag so clean hands and clean house all round – big win! This is great for all ages – perfect tummy time for our youngest explorers, great for fine motor development for our pre-walkers and it also opens up some great discussion with inquisitive toddlers!!

Now the weather is (supposedly) improving it’s always great to get the sand tray out – we had ours out last weekend and my daughter spent ages playing in it again! Why not dress it up for a safari? You could add some fern leaves, some sticks and some smooth pebbles along with a few animals and let your explorer’s imagination go wild! Do they need a little help with their imagination?  You could couple it with some great books such as “Rumble in the Jungle” by Giles Andreae or Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell or why not try the amazing Alex Scheffler’s “In the Jungle”  Books are always good to get the creative juices flowing. The amazing Usbourne Books will be at our event in Bury St Edmunds on the 14th so you will be able to pick up some great books there!

My last idea to try at home is for the very brave, or maybe one to keep for a sunny day! It’s proving very popular at our Rumble in the Jungle events and is so easy to do! Mud Bath – all you need is some topsoil and some water – who doesn’t like icky, sticky mud (unless you are over 16 of course!) You could add some pebbles, cabbage leaves and some animals, include some spades, rakes and a couple of small flower pots. Your child will have a great time digging in the mud (Do make sure they are in old clothes though – it can stain!)
